Providence is investing $712 million in southern Orange County in California to build two new multispecialty medical centers and a new patient-care tower at Providence Mission Hospital.

The new patient-care tower will provide operating suites, cardiac catheterization labs and nearly 100 new private patient rooms. It will allow Providence Mission to greatly enhance the neuroscience center of excellence, cardiovascular programs and maternity services, the health system said.

The hospital will also be constructing a new multispecialty ambulatory surgery center on the campus. This will streamline surgical care for patients, attract new physician partners and offer the latest minimally invasive care options.

WHY THIS MATTERS

The expansion is to meet the growing demand for healthcare in the region, Providence said.

The two new multispecialty health centers in Rancho Mission Viejo and San Clemente will improve access. They will offer high-acuity urgent care services staffed by emergency medicine physicians. They will also have a full-service imaging center with advanced diagnostics and a multispecialty clinic with primary care physicians, OB/GYNs and other specialty care providers.

"The innovative three-part plan includes a substantial expansion of the Mission Viejo hospital campus and the development of two new multi-specialty health centers in San Clemente and Rancho Mission Viejo," added Providence Mission Hospital Chief Executive Seth Teigen.

THE LARGER TREND

Mission Hospital, a 504-bed acute care regional medical center in Mission Viejo, California, is part of Providence, a not-for-profit integrated Catholic health system of 52 hospitals.

Today, Providence announced that it was advancing surgical robotics through the acquisition of AquaBeam Robotic Systems. The national contract was signed as a collaboration with PROCEPT BioRobotics Corporation, a surgical robotics company focused on urology.

As of June 30, Providence had seven AquaBeam Robotic Systems installed across California and Texas.

ON THE RECORD

"Caring for our neighbors is our primary mission, and having just celebrated our hospital's 50th anniversary, we're excited at the opportunity to grow with our growing community, and to continue providing care for the next 50," Teigen said.
